  1. It was a very dangerous but also a brave decision that the Johansens made to hide Ellen from the Germans. It was so dangerous because if they were caught doing this the entire Johansen family and Ellen would have been taken by the German soldiers and sent to a concentration camp or even killed. At the same time this decision was brave because they put their own well being in danger in order to help a friend.
It was very important for Ellen to remove her Star of David necklace when the soldiers visited the apartment because if the soldiers would have seen the necklace on her they would have known that she was Jewish. It was very smart and fast thinking for Ann Marie think of Ellen needing to take off her necklace. By her fast thinking she surely saved Ellen and her family for danger.

    1. The Johansen Family did put themselves in danger by hiding Ellen. They could have been sent away or killed for hiding a Jewish girl.

Annemarie thinking fast and hiding Ellens necklace saved the family from danger as well.

I agree that it was both a dangerous and brave decision that the Johansens made to hide Ellen. I think it was also a courageous decision that the whole family risked being killed or put in a concentration camp for hiding Ellen. I like how much word choice that you put in to describe the family. And I think it was a brave decision that Ann Marie ripped of Ellens necklace so Ellen wouldn't get taken away.

  2. I think it's a dangerous decision for Ellen to stay at the Joansen's house and it's important that she takes off the "Star of David" necklace because the germen soldiers are sending jews to concentration camps and only jews wear the necklaces.

  3. I think the decision that the Johansens made to have Ellen stay with them is very dangerous.I think it was very dangerous if the soldiers that came could not have believed that Ellen was Lise. (witch she was pretending to be.) And the soldiers could of taken Ellen away, and Ellen would never see her friends again or her family. It is also is dangerous for the Johansens, because if the soldiers could have taken away the Johansens if they found out they where hhelping the Rosens. I think it is important that Ellen took off her Star of David necklace because the soldiers would have know that Ellen was a Jew. And the soldiers would know that Ellen was pretended that she was Lise and not her normal self, a Jew.

    1. Great thoughts Leah. Can you imagine how tense it was in that apartment while they were being questioned about Ellen's identity and the whereabouts of the Rosens. I still get nervous thinking about it.

  4. The reason why hidding Elen in the the Johansen`s apartment was dangerous was that shes a jew and they wanted jews. And the reason why she took off the her Star of David necklace when the soldiers came was it a sign that she was a jew , and she didn't want to show she was a jew so something bad doesn't happen to Elen .

  5. I agree with you Leah :) you are exactly right that it was a dangerous decision and the germen soldiers were suspicious. I think that they wouldn't of believed Ellen was Lise if it weren't for her hair!

  6. The Johansens make the dangerous decision because Hitler hates Jews and Ellen is a Jewish so the soldiers came to the Rosen’s house to look for Ellen and her parent’s and nobody was there. Then the soldiers went to the Johansens house and they lied to the soldiers that Ellen’s name was Lise.It was also important that Ellen removed her necklace because the star of David is Jewish and the soldiers were looking for Jews.

    1. Sam,
I agree with the reason you listed that it was dangerous for the Johansens to hid Ellen Rosen in their house, In addition, when the Nazis woke the girls out of bed they lied and said she was a member of the family, Lise. If the Nazis had discovered they were lying they would be treated as criminals and probably thrown in jail or even worse.

Annemarie was very brave when she removed Ellen's necklace. It would have been a dead give away that Ellen was Jewish and they probably would have taken her away then and there.

  7. The way it’s dangerous for the Johansens to be hiding Ellen is. If the Nazis find she’s jewish they are most likely going to kill her sooner because. They would know she was lying to them and every one knows how easy Nazis get mad and how mad they got. The reason why Ellen removed the Star of David necklace is because. The Star of David is part of the jewish religion so if the Nazis saw it they would know Ellen was jewish.
